ACCGC Accredits University of Houston BS Degree in Digital Media
The University of Houston’s BS degree in Digital Media has been accredited by the Accreditation Council for Collegiate Graphic Communications (ACCGC) (https://uh.edu/tech/digitalmedia/). This dynamic and progressive degree program has over 500 full-time students and defines digital media as the creative convergence of digital arts, science, technology and business for human expression, communication, social interaction and education. What makes this digital media program incredibly unique is that it is one of 18 programs in the United States that not only teaches media to display on a screen, but also practical printing with facilities for the production and management of physical visual media (for more information, (see https://whattheythink.com/news/111743-graphic-communications-academic-discipline-rare-valuable-degrees/).
A guest team of educators and industry leaders verified that the program meets each of the 15 ACCGC standards required for high-quality college programs. This includes strong leadership, an active industry advisory board, a system of quality improvement through benchmark measurement, an up-to-date curriculum, and exceptional classroom instruction. Dan Wilson, CEO of ACCGC, said, “Without accreditation, there is no transparency into the inner workings of a degree program. Websites can make any program look great, but accreditation assures everyone that the program meets the highest standards.
According to Dr. George Glisan, visiting team leader and coordinator of the Reese Graphic Communications Management Program at Appalachian State University, “The University of Houston’s Digital Media program presents a valuable model for modern graphic communications programs. “. Michael Shannon, Guest Team Member, Chief Revenue Officer at Printron, said, “The diverse student body is incredibly engaged in real-world learning projects that will result in an ability to excel in a variety of roles across the graphic communications industry, including creative services, marketing, production and sales.
