NDtourism.com was chosen for the award by an independent jury who ranked each website on seven criteria, scoring between 0 and 70 points. The North Dakota Tourism website’s score in this contest was 65 overall, which was well above the industry average of 53.

“The North Dakota Tourism website is one of the most comprehensive marketing tools for showcasing our vibrant communities, destination partners, and all of the unique things to see and do in our state,” said Sara Otte Coleman, director of tourism and marketing. “Our digital team created a robust website with enhanced search capability to design fun itineraries and inspire longer stays in the state.”

Commerce Tourism and Marketing announced the improved website in December 2021. Site updates included visual and navigation improvements, an improved partner access portal, and continued attention to ensure the site continues to rank on the first page of the Google search engine from organic keywords.

The improvements resulted in a 25.6% increase in traffic with a record 2.15 million visits. Website visits are a major signal of intention to travel. There were 281,712 referrals (site visitors who logged in for details) to partner websites.
